Penn State Greater Allegheny’s signature program, The Crossing Bridges Summit, held its final installment of a four-part series discussing Black Women’s Health. The event was held on April 15. The panel focused on political and policy influences and was sponsored by Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield and Allegheny Health Network. The University of Pittsburgh launches a hackathon-style event that encourages students to design solutions to homelessness and other social problems.
The coronavirus has caused many business schools to reassess their priorities and come up with new ways to deliver key student experiences. At the University of Pittsburgh Joseph M. Katz Graduate School of Business, the pandemic forced us to rethink our approach to one of the pillars of our graduate programs learning by doing.
As the same time, the pandemic reminded us how important it is that we diligently train our students to manage during times of change and uncertainty. Those who pay the least amount for rent are most likely to face eviction, a study led by The Pittsburgh Foundation found.
The study began in 2016 and was published Tuesday.

Pittsburgh Foundation Report Aims To Call Attention To Evictions And Propose Solutions


A new report from The Pittsburgh Foundation examines evictions in Allegheny County
An average of 13,000 eviction cases were filed every year by Allegheny County landlords prior to the pandemic, typically over about an average of $2,000 owed, according to a report released Tuesday by The Pittsburgh Foundation.
Such filings hurt everyone, the report emphasized – tenants who are uprooted and who often move into worse housing, landlords who lose income, and ultimately neighborhoods and the public, as courts and social services are burdened by the consequences of preventable displacement.
The lengthy report compiles years of research, analysis and interviews, data from the courts and Allegheny County Department of Human Services, and the voices of renters and landlords speaking about their experiences. ....
