Cape Fear Habitat for Humanity's Steve Spain to retire in 2021


 After more than 16 years of helping families in the community find shelter and permanent, affordable housing, Steve Spain, executive director of Cape Fear Habitat for Humanity, has announced his retirement. Spain plans to retire in April.
Cape Fear Habitat builds affordable homes that are then sold to qualifying, low-to middle-income families with an affordable mortgage.
Spain began his local nonprofit work with Wilmington Interfaith Hospitality Network in 2005 where he led the organization for eight years, helping homeless families find permanent employment and housing.
He then began as executive director with Cape Fear Habitat in 2013. Through Spain’s leadership, Cape Fear Habitat doubled their closings and the number of families assisted. ....

Cape Fear Habitat for Humanity Executive Director Steve Spain is set to retire this spring, after eight years with the Wilmington-based nonprofit organization, according to a news release.
Spain, who plans to retire in April, will be succeeded by Lauren McKenzie, the current director of finance and operations at Cape Fear Habitat for Humanity, officials said.
Spain began his role as executive director of the nonprofit in January 2013, managing the organization’s efforts to grow its mission, and helping families in the Wilmington area find shelter and affordable housing. ....

Gallia-Meigs CAA awarded funds for emergency program
OHIO VALLEY Gallia-Meigs Community Action Agency has been chosen to receive $12,267 in Gallia County and $10,912 in Meigs County to supplement targeted emergency programs for residents. Beginning March 1, 2021, GMCAA, will begin helping clients with this fund and will continue until funds are exhausted.
The selection was made by the National Board made up of affiliates of national voluntary organizations and chaired by the Emergency Food & Shelter Program (EFSP). United Way of America will provide the administrative staff and function as the fiscal agent. The Board was charged to distribute funds appropriated by Congress under Phase 38 to help expand the capacity of food and shelter in high-need around the country. ....

YCAP has grant funds for emergency food and shelter
Yamhill County has been awarded $44,165 in Federal funds for emergency food and shelter program grants, the Yamhill CommunityAction Agency announced last week.
Tomorrow afternoon, however, is the deadline for food pantries and other agencies to apply.
The money comes from Phase 38 of the Emergency Food & Shelter Program distributed through the Federal Emergency Management Agency.
A Local Board is charged to distribute EFSP funds to help expand the capacity of food and shelter programs in high-need areas around the country. The Yamhill County Local Board will determine how the funds awarded are to be distributed among the emergency food and shelter programs run by local service agencies in the area. The Local Board will be meeting on February 5, 2021 and the funds will be awarded at the time. Funds must be expended by May 31, 2021 as this phase is concurrent with Phase 37/CARES. ....
