The virtual shutdown of all economic activities due to Covid-19 pandemic has resulted in a massive loss of livelihoods. Millions of workforces in the unorganised sector has been one of the worst affected sections of society. Further, a significant part of this workforce has reverse migrated from cities to rural areas. In order to address this migrant crisis, Young India,a Odisha based development organisation in partnership with United States Department of State, implemented an awareness campaign “Nua Sakalara Katha” to create awareness on Covid-19 and to facilitate employment opportunities for migrant labours through different govt. schemes like Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA). ....

Naveen Patnaik emphasizes on port-led development in Odisha under Sagarmala | Bhubaneswar News

Addressing the meeting over videoconference, the chief minister said that the Sagarmala project can further enable Odisha to emerge as a major logistics destination.
BHUBANESWAR: Chief minister Naveen Patnaik on Wednesday underlined Odisha’s strategic advantage of long coastline and emphasized on port-led development through industrialization and connectivity as he chaired the first meeting the of state Sagarmala committee.
Addressing the meeting over videoconference, the chief minister said that the Sagarmala project can further enable Odisha to emerge as a major logistics destination. He also stressed on development of coastal community, a major objective under the initiative.
The Sagarmala, an initiative of the Narendra Modi government aims port-led development and improvement of waterways in the country. ....

Odisha: Minister reviews port projects | Bhubaneswar News

BHUBANESWAR: State commerce and transport minister Padmanabha Behera on Tuesday reviewed the progress of two port projects at Subarnarekha in Balasore district and Astaranga in Puri district and asked officials to resolve the bottlenecks.
It was revealed in the meeting that land acquisition for the two port projects and other infrastructure like road and railway lines is the major hurdle for the port projects.
Of total required 965 acres for the Subarnarekha port project, the state government has already handed over 692 acres to the port developers, while steps are being taken by the Balasore administration to acquire the remaining land. The process of land acquisition for the port project at Astaranga is mired in legal battles as seven villagers have moved the Orissa high court challenging the process. ....
