SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A group of local leaders representing public, private and nonprofit organizations announced the launch of Accelerate to Zero Emissions a regional collaborative dedicated to curbing air pollution and climate change through clean transportation.
The coalition consisting of 13 entities, including the region s largest cities aims to make it easier for local residents and businesses to transition to electric vehicles, plug-in hybrids and hydrogen fuel cell vehicles. ....

In February 2019, NBC7 Investigates obtained internal documents from the San Diego Fire Department that showed the city delayed fixing a known asbestos problem at the fire academy. The documents showed that over the course of a decade, thousands of firefighters were exposed to asbestos and lead in the floors, walls and ceilings.
NBC 7 has now confirmed that just one day after the report, the county’s Air Pollution Control District (ACPD) started its own investigation into the exposure. An ACPD investigation report obtained by a public records request reads, in part, “A district employee watched the broadcast and notified Air Pollution Control District management the following day in the afternoon. The report aired by NBC alleged that the city minimized and failed to disclose the dangers of asbestos and lead present in the training facility buildings. The Air Pollution Control District for Santa Barbara County released a media advisory today alerting local areas of the Sedgwick Reserve Research Burn scheduled to take place Wednesday, June 23 depending on conditions.
This one-day burn will include 2 acres of grasses along Sedgwick Reserve in the Santa Ynez Valley, just east of and adjacent to Figueroa Creek. The prescribed burn is planned and coordinated by the Santa Barbara County Fire Department with Santa Barbara County APCD, San Luis Obispo APCD, San Joaquin Valley APCD, Ventura County APCD, and the California Air Resources Board. These entities aim to minimize impacts on air quality of surrounding communities by conducting the burn when the weather conditions are highly favorable to direct smoke away from population centers. ....
