Province partners with Chiefs of Ontario to create First Nation-led Prosperity Table

The Ontario government is supporting the creation of a First Nations Economic Growth and Prosperity Table (Prosperity Table) to help support economic advancement and well-being of Indigenous communities.
“Ensuring the full and equal participation of Indigenous peoples in the economy is a top priority for our government,” said Premier Doug Ford. “We are committed to supporting Indigenous-led economic development, prosperity and wealth creation that respects the diversity of Indigenous communities and cultures.”
Over the next two years, the province will partner with the Chiefs of Ontario (COO) to establish the Prosperity Table. The Table will enable relationships with surrounding economies, industries and business partners and contribute to a greater understanding and cooperation between First Nation leaders and the government. Seven local First Nations have received federal funding to build new housing units in their communities.
The communities include Wauzhushk Onigum, Eagle Lake, Deer Lake, Iskatewizaagegan #39, Mishkeegogamang, Webequie and Kitchenuhmaykoosib Inninuwug First Nations.
“Any addition to the housing supply will help alleviate overcrowding issues and can help reduce the spread of infectious diseases, like COVID-19,” said Ontario Regional Chief RoseAnne Archibald.
“I am encouraged that all these partners and First Nation communities are working together because housing is a basic human right – home is where we feel safe. We look forward to working with our federal and provincial partners on how to mitigate rising construction costs so that we can reach our mutual goal of safe and affordable housing for First Nations peoples in Onta ....

Ontario Premier Doug Ford reiterated Sunday that he has apologized for accusing a First Nations MPP who got a COVID-19 vaccine of queue jumping, adding that things “got a little personal” due to the fact that the MPP is from a different political party.
The original allegation was made Thursday during a Question Period exchange between the premier and NDP MPP Sol Mamakwa from the Kiiwetinoong riding.
In response to a question about what the government has done to vaccinate vulnerable Indigenous people in urban areas, Ford said that his party had prioritized the vaccination of 31 fly-in communities ....
