“The loss of Matthew has been made even more traumatic by hearing what happened.”
Diane Hunt commended Constable David Goldfinch, who survived the shooting, on his bravery and thanked everyone for their support.
“We are grateful for the kindness that has been shown to us, but I hope no other police family will ever go through this.”
Diane Hunt said Friday, July 30, would mark what should have been Hunt’s 30th birthday.

“Doing that for a while, the general pressure of work and home built up,” he said.
He woke up about 4am one day with tingling in his arm and he doesn t remember what happened after he got up.
Fortunately his daughter was visiting that night. She heard banging, which turned out to be Harrison having a spasm on the ground, and she called an ambulance.
Doctors found a benign brain tumour and they had to cut right across his head to remove it. He needed 27 staples to close the wound.
“It was a big wake-up call.”
He was medically discharged from the army and now is the full-time carer for his wife. ....

Auckland police shooting: Man pleads guilty to murder of Constable Matthew Hunt

Their trial got underway on Monday at the High Court.
Hunt died after being shot while carrying out a routine traffic stop in Massey, West Auckland, on June 19, 2020.
It’s understood Hunt, who was unarmed, was shot in the abdomen and pronounced dead at the scene.

Eli Epiha admitted killing Constable Matthew Hunt at the High Court.
His colleague was shot in the leg and taken to Auckland City Hospital in a serious condition.
Hunt was raised on Auckland’s Hibiscus Coast and was described by his family as a “classic coastie”.
He completed a criminology degree at Auckland University of Technology and worked as a case manager at Auckland Prison before joining the police. ....
