Experts said Covishield is being produced at a much higher scale than Covaxin due to which its availability is more.
Covishield, from the Oxford/AstraZeneca stable, comprises over 90% of the 12.76 crore COVID-19 vaccines administered across the country so far, according to government data on Wednesday.
Of this, 15 States and union territories have only given Covishield, being manufactured by the Pune-based Serum Instiute of India. The other vaccine being administered in India is the indigenous Covaxin from Bharat Biotech in Hyderabad. ....

About 60,000 doses of the Oxford-AstraZeneca Covid-19 vaccine donated by the AU to South Sudan expired before they could be used, the country s health officials have said.
BBC reported that about 2,000 health workers and the elderly have been vaccinated in Juba, South Sudan s capital.
The report said the state s incident manager, Dr Richard Laku, said the country wouldn t have finished the 60,000 donated doses before their expiry date even if it had started using them. 
The World Health Organisation in Sudan said they would assist the South Sudan government on how to dispose the vaccine if asked.   ....

Oxford University researchers have gained ethical approval for a trial that aimed to check the immune response needed to protect people against reinfection.

As many as 64 healthy young adults aged between 18-30 who have previously contracted COVID-19 and have been completely cured will now be recruited to take part in a new human challenge trial to study how the body s immune system reacts to the COVID-19 virus. 
Notably, researchers at Oxford have gained ethical approval for this trial that hopes to check the immune response needed to protect people against reinfection. ....
