Cowley LTNs: People on Blackbird Leys are 'trapped' by traffic barriers

PEOPLE living on Oxford s Blackbird Leys estate say they feel ‘trapped’ by new traffic-calming measures in neighbouring Cowley.
Low Traffic Neighbourhoods were introduced by Oxfordshire County Council in March to parts of the city in an attempt to stop rat runs, encourage active travel and reduce traffic pollution.
The bollards and planters were introduced as a six-month trial to Church Cowley, Temple Cowley, and Florence Park.
Although an LTN has not been introduced in Blackbird Leys, residents are concerned about the secondary impact the traffic scheme is having on their journey times.
During the estate’s parish council meeting last week, Deborah Mcllveen, Oxfordshire County Councillor for Blackbird Leys, spoke up about the issues the LTN is causing to locals and encouraged them to share their views in the consultation. ....

Police front desk in Bicester to close for good

THE public-facing desk at Bicester Police Station is being permanently closed as part of a force-wide cut to front counter services.
The move, which comes after a consultation by Thames Valley Police, will also see help desks close at Kidlington South HQ and Witney police stations.
Thames Valley Police says the closures aim to adapt to the different ways people now want to make contact with officers, such as via telephone or online.
Conservative Cherwell District and Oxfordshire County Councillor for Bicester South Dan Sames says he very rarely used the front desk in Bicester.
He said: It’s always worrying when there is a change in service, however, we need to ask when we last used the service being removed? Personally in the 24 years I’ve lived in Bicester I think I’ve had one visit to the front desk. ....
