Hajiya Sadiya Umar Farouq, the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development has received Disaster Risk Reduction specialised equipment for search and rescue of persons in distress, donated by the Japanese Government.
Mrs Nneka Anibeze, the Special Assistant on Media to Farouq said this in a statement on Monday in Abuja
According to her, the equipment were presented at the presentation of the 2020 Annual Report of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA).
The minister said that the donated equipment included nine units of Rescue vehicles with rescue equipment and four units of mobile water purifier systems with vehicles. ....

FG takes delivery of disaster risk reduction equipment from Japan -

ABUJA–THE federal government, Monday, took delivery of disaster risk reduction equipment from the Government of Japan.
Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development, Sadiya Umar Farouq, received the specialized equipment and vehicles donated through the National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA.
The equipment are for search and rescue of persons in distress.
The induction took place on Monday at the Nigerian Army Resource Center Abuja during the presentation of the 2020 Annual Report of NEMA.
The equipment presented to the minister included nine units of rescue vehicles with rescue equipment and four units of mobile water purifier systems with vehicles. ....

Beirut, April 2021 – With the support from the Government of Japan (USD 825,000), the United Nations Mine Action Service Syria Response Programme (UNMAS SRP) launched the new project “Humanitarian Mine Action to address increased threat associated with the COVID-19 pandemic in Syria (31 March 2021 – 30 March 2022)”.
The Syrian conflict is one of the most devastating humanitarian crises of modern times. The extensive use of weapons has contaminated vast swathes of land with explosive ordnance including landmines, improvised explosive devices and other explosive remnants of war. While the full scale of contamination is not precisely known, based on preliminary findings for the 2021 Humanitarian Needs Overview (HNO), approximately one in three communities in Syria is potentially contaminated with explosive ordnance. ....

The Government of Japan and UNOPS Support COVID-19 Response in Syria

Damascus - April 5, 2021 – The Government of Japan funded in the amount of USD 2,336,554 from the Japanese Supplementary Budget 2020 to UNOPS so that UNOPS will launch a new project for supporting COVID-19 emergency response in Syria. The Project aims to increase the capacities of the national health sector in the provision of life-saving and life sustaining services to the populations affected by the ongoing conflict and the COVID-19 pandemic. The project will deliver critically needed medical equipment and supplies in hospitals and health facilities supporting Syria’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic, and is expected to benefit approximately 720,000 people on an annual basis. ....
