Secwepemc performer to deliver traditional storytelling through virtual event | iNFOnews

As the Kamloops area, and the country, reels from the news of the discovery of a burial site found near the former Kamloops Residential School, Secwepemc performer Kenthen Thomas will deliver his storytelling through a virtual event tomorrow evening.
Thomas is currently a School District 73 Aboriginal resource teacher, but he boasts a performing resume including time with the Secwepemc Native Theatre, Dreamweaver Theater and Caravan Farm Theatre, according to the Facebook event page.
It s for the ones that do not get home too often and do not get a chance to get out to the communities and listen to stories from their Elders, Thomas said. It s a way of creating a connection for anyone that cares to listen. ....

Library and Archives Canada: ten projects for preservation of documentary heritage funded in British Columbia

GATINEAU, QC, May 13, 2021 /CNW Telbec/ - Library and Archives Canada (LAC) will provide $1.5 million to support 41 projects (including 26 new projects) by archives, libraries and documentary heritage institutions throughout Canada. Ten projects submitted by organizations from British-Columbia will be funded under the Documenary Heritage Communities Program (DHCP).
The following projects will be funded by the DHCP in British Columbia in 2021–2022:
Women of Change: Celebrating Japanese Canadian Leaders (Nikkei National Museum & Cultural Centre),

Chase, $24,895;
Mansons Landing, $1,340;
Merritt, $44,148;
Vancouver, $24,160;
Vancouver, $16,150;

Vernon, $50,000; and
Williams Lake, $22,775.
