Summit County officially moved into level green on Wednesday, May 5, meaning measures like the 6-foot distancing rule and capacity restrictions were officially removed.
While the news was a big win for many local businesses, life won’t completely go back to normal just yet. On Tuesday, May 4, Summit County health officials and the Summit Board of County Commissioners developed specifics surrounding level green restrictions and what measures will remain in place.
Most notable is an ongoing mask mandate that requires facial coverings be worn in indoor places open to the public and at outdoor events where individuals will be within 6 feet of one another for longer than 15 minutes, such as a parade or concert. ....

Summit County, Dillon discuss concepts for proposed workforce housing development

Dillon, Summit County and the U.S. Forest Service continue to make progress on a potential workforce housing partnership on Forest Service land near Dillon.
The Summit Board of County Commissioners tuned into the Dillon Town Council meeting April 6 for a joint work session on the proposed project. Representatives with the Forest Service also joined the meeting to share their thoughts on the effort along with Norris Design, which provided officials with a pair of new concepts for the site.
While planning and negotiations have begun in good faith between all parties involved, officials made it clear that the project is unique and that there is plenty of work to be done before it could come to fruition. ....

Summit officials express frustrations about moving back to level orange

Summit County will be moved from level yellow to level orange on the state’s COVID-19 dial beginning Wednesday, April 7. The move will decrease capacities at most businesses.

Summit County officials expressed their frustrations in a Board of Health meeting Tuesday that the state would be moving the county backward on the COVID-19 dial.
The move from level yellow to level orange restrictions takes effect at 6 a.m. Wednesday, reducing capacity at most business types to 25%. Businesses in the 5 Star State Certification Program can operate under level yellow restrictions, which generally allow up to 50% capacity with some limits. ....

As pandemic wears on, Summit County officials look to support mental health efforts

While life in a pandemic has become routine, that doesn’t mean it has become easier, and local officials are taking note of that.
At a Summit County Board of Health meeting Thursday, Jan. 28, Building Hope Summit County Executive Director Jen McAtamney presented on mental health trends throughout the county. The board invited McAtamney to the meeting in an effort to gain a better understanding of how the pandemic is impacting all aspects of life for locals.
Overall, the nonprofit is seeing increased demand and severity when it comes to depression, anxiety and substance use.
“At the very beginning of this, we actually saw a decrease in anxiety and depression,” McAtamney said at the meeting. “But as the lockdown wore on, and as things have subsequently gone on, we’ve seen an increase in depression and anxiety. … Everything is more acute.” ....
