Gronk To Donate $1.2 Million To Renovate Charles River Esplanade Playground

BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) Former Patriots star Rob Gronkowski is donating $1.2 million dollars for a full renovation of the Charlesbank Playground, which is located in the Charles River Esplanade.
The money will come from him and the Gronk Nation Youth Foundation.
At the announcement, Gronkowski said the concept of this playground is to motivate kids to be outdoors, get fit, and have fun. I hope this playground inspires the next generation of athletes.
Gov. Charlie Baker is set to accept the donation Friday afternoon, along with Secretary of Energy and Environmental Affairs Kathleen Theoharides, Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR) Commissioner Jim Montgomery and Esplanade Association Executive Director Michael Nichols. ....

There’s renewed hope this week that a confluence of state and city attention and monies will finally break an impasse over how best to move forward in rebuilding our vulnerable, but essential road system along Dorchester’s coastline.
Baker administration officials joined by aides to Mayor Walsh rolled out welcome news last week that Boston and the Commonwealth will jointly fund a $1 million-plus study this year to further advance planning that has already been done to modernize Morrissey Boulevard. The scope of the engineering study will go beyond what the state’s Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR) has already done along Morrissey. The new study will amplify those plans and add in the bottleneck-round-about at Kosciuszko Circle and the roads that feed it: Day Boulevard, Old Colony Boulevard, and Columbia Road to Dot Ave. ....

Fifth-graders encouraged to enter Arbor Day Poster Contest
BOSTON State Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR) Commissioner Jim Montgomery is encouraging Massachusetts fifth-graders to participate in the agency’s 2021 Arbor Day Poster Contest.
Fifth-graders from across the state who are currently enrolled in both public and private schools, or who are home-schooled, can participate in the contest by creating posters that illustrate this year’s theme, “The Trees Out Our Window.” According to a DCR press release, posters must be submitted by March 15.
“Every tree is unique with an important role in keeping our environment healthy, and I’m pleased that each year fifth-graders capture this importance by participating in the Department of Conservation and Recreation’s annual Arbor Day Poster Contest,” Montgomery said. “I look forward to 2021’s inspiring entries from stud ....
