Woody Creek Tavern expanded seating approved again until end of year

Temporary expanded seating on the Woody Creek Tavern’s patio will be allowed through the end of 2021.
Pitkin County commissioners approved the request by the Tavern’s new owners at their regular weekly work session Tuesday, while also directing county staff to work with the community and look into ways to slow down traffic in front of the popular, at-times crowded bar and restaurant.

Judge sets bond at $25K for alleged culprit of Pitkin County lockdown

prompted the lockdown of Pitkin County’s administrative offices for two days last week.
Pitkin County District Judge Chris Seldin said he had no option but to set bond for Andrew Johnston rather than release him from custody due to his failure to honor a previous court order forbidding his contact with another person.
Seldin said Johnston might benefit greater from mental health treatment instead of jail time during the duration of his cases. Yet that was not an alternative for Seldin in the case against Johnston, who has not been clinically diagnosed with any mental health issues.
“But society does not provide me with that option,” Seldin said. “Instead, it provides me with the option of either incarcerating Mr. Johnston, and these jails are tasked with the difficult job of trying not only to serve as a correctional facility, but also as a mental health treatment facility.” ....

Commissioners approve Highway 82 construction detour for summer 2022

Pitkin County commissioners Tuesday approved the state transportation department’s summer 2022 plan to repave Highway 82 and reconstruct the roundabout, including a detour through Woody Creek.
Board members also gave the thumbs-up to contributing $100,000 toward the reconstruction of the roundabout and authorized the use of a strip of county-owned open space between the roundabout and the kiss-and-ride bus stop during construction.
“Doing a detour is really an essential part of this to make (the project) run as smoothly as possible,” Commissioner Steve Child said. “People are going to use it anyway.” ....
