Second Annual PFD Education Raffle Drawing Held in Juneau (Juneau, AK) – Wednesday the second annual drawing of the PFD Education Raffle was held at the State Office Building in Juneau. Alaska Department of Revenue officials, along with bill sponsor Senator Click Bishop, drew four winners from the 9,833 entries. “Education touches all of us. We all want to help our schools, we all want to help Alaska’s kids, and this is a great opportunity to do that,” said Governor Mike Dunleavy. “This year more than $737,000 will go toward providing educational opportunities for our children. I am inspired to see Alaskans come together to support our children’s educational futures through the PFD Education Raffle.” ....

Mike Dunleavy said he views as valid his appointment of a Revenue commissioner and picks for boards and commissions that the Legislature has not acted to confirm. In letters dated Wednesday to House Speaker Bryce Edgmon and Senate President Cathy Giessel, Dunleavy said he was exercising authority under a provision of the state constitution dealing with recess appointments to continue their appointments. His office, in a statement Thursday, said under the constitution, “it is incumbent upon the legislature to hold an up or down vote. Failure to do so is not a valid reason to reject the appointments, leaving critical positions in state government unfilled because lawmakers did not meet to fulfil their constitutional duty.” ....
