One driver critical after Tuesday crash

A motor vehicle crash on Laboratory Road near Home Depot in Oak Ridge reportedly resulted in the injury of a driver. 
The crash, involving a truck and a car, was called in with injuries around 4:22 p.m. Tuesday.
The injured driver was transported to University of Tennessee Medical Center in Knoxville via Lifestar air ambulance, and as of 8 p.m. Tuesday, was in critical condition, Lauren Gray, city communications specialist told The Oak Ridger. The driver was not identified by the city.
The roadway near Home Depot closed, but reopened around 8 p.m. Oak Ridge police, Oak Ridge fire, Oak Ridge Public Works and two ambulances from Anderson County Emergency Medical Services (EMS) assisted on scene. The investigation is ongoing. ....

Two displaced after Jellico Lane house fire

Two people were safe, but displaced, after a house fire on Jellico Lane in Oak Ridge Saturday afternoon. 
Oak Ridge Fire Department crews were called to the home on the 100-block of Jellico Lane around 1:46 p.m. after a neighbor reported the fire, a city of Oak Ridge news release stated. The neighbor reportedly told investigators they saw the flames and tried to put it out with a garden hose, but was unsuccessful. 
Crews arrived on the scene at 1:52 p.m., had the fire under control by 2:05 p.m. and it was completely out by 2:16 p.m.  ....

DA: Officers justified in killing man

Anderson County District Attorney General David Clark won t be prosecuting the Oak Ridge Police Department officers who shot Oak Ridge resident Fred Arcera, 41, last August.
In his report Monday, Clark stated the officers acted in self defense against Arcera who Clark said had two knives and had tried to attack the officers. 
“Police officers are individuals that we trust and invest with special legal authority, including the authority to use force. That force may include lethal force under limited circumstances,” he said in the report.
In the report, Clark also expressed sympathy for Arcera, who he said was a military  veteran and suffered from mental health issues. ....

McNally speaks to Rotary on mask mandates

Lt. Gov. Randy McNally, R-Oak Ridge, has said he recently talked to the governor about allowing cities like Oak Ridge to have the authority to mandate that people wear masks at private businesses within the city.
McNally, who also represents Oak Ridge in the Tennessee Senate, spoke recently to the Rotary Club of Oak Ridge at a virtual meeting. He said he’d asked Tennessee Gov.Bill Lee about allowing cities to require face coverings indoors. McNally did not say Lee had responded yet. However, he told Oak Ridge Rotarian John Gunning he would keep him informed about the governor’s response. ....
