OSHA cites hauler in death | News, Sports, Jobs

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration has cited Burgmeier’s Hauling and a related firm in connection with the death of an employee in October in a logging accident.
It’s an open case, and a conference is scheduled for informal discussions about it between Burgmeier’s and OSHA, according to Christopher Robinson, area director for OSHA in Pittsburgh.
OSHA lists a total of six violations, with fines totaling $60,000, related to the Oct. 28 death of Steven K. Shiffler, 63, Altoona, in an area near Walker Lane in Antis Township, according to the OSHA website.
Reportedly, Shiffler was cutting down a tree, which fell onto another tree, breaking a branch off the second tree that fell onto Shiffler, killing him instantly. ....

The Pennsylvania Industrial Development Authority (PIDA) recently approved more than $11 million in low-interest loans for seven companies in five counties to create and retain employees, grow operations, and improve facilities.
DelGrosso Foods in Blair County, through Altoona-Blair County Development Corp., was approved for a $1.6 million loan. The company will renovate a vacant 160,220-square-foot building in Antis Township into a food manufacturing facility.
The project is expected to cost $12.8 million, create 26 new jobs, and retain 113 positions.
Flex-Cell Precision in Lancaster County, through EDC Finance Corp., was approved for a $1.5 million loan to expand its manufacturing facility from 17,500 to 41,010 square feet. ....

Rock Lititz Studio (through the EDC Finance Corporation) was approved for a 15-year, $2 million loan at a 1 percent reset rate to build a 44,400-square-foot rehearsal studio known as Studio 2. The project site is located within the Rock Lititz Campus in a 96-acre business park. ....

Gov. Tom Wolf announced Monday that DelGrosso Foods will receive $1.5 million to help expand manufacturing operations in Blair County.
The Pennsylvania-based company, the oldest family-owned pasta sauce producer in the United States, will convert a 166,000 square-foot vacant facility in Antis Township into an expanded pasta sauce manufacturing space which will allow the company to double its production.
“DelGrosso Foods is a nationally recognized food manufacturer known by many Pennsylvanians, whether in the grocery store aisle or at home in our kitchens, and it has supplied consumers across the country with its trusted products for decades,” said Gov. Governor Tom Wolf announced that longtime Pennsylvania-based DelGrosso Foods, the oldest family-owned pasta sauce producer in the United States, will continue to call Pennsylvania home by expanding its manufacturing operations in Blair County.
The company will convert a recently acquired 166,000 square-foot vacant facility in Antis Township into an expanded pasta sauce manufacturing space through the addition of a new sauce manufacturing line, allowing the company to more than double its production. ....
