The service supports more than 2,200 elderly people who live throughout the borough and provide a 24-hour response to residents who press their CareLink button. Previously staff had to call relatives to help and, if they were not available, an ambulance had to be called. During the pandemic, the service leased a van and bought lifting equipment and since then, the service has swung into action 400 times, helping people up from a fall on more than half of these occasions. ....

Cllr Tim Pickstone will be joined by council leader Eamonn O’Brien in paying tribute to their tireless work looking after the borough’s most vulnerable people, especially during the Covid-19 pandemic. The session will be live-streamed on Friday, March 19 at 5pm and will be recorded so that anyone, particularly those unable to watch live due to caring responsibilities, can view it later. Bury Athletic Club BURY Council has set aside £250,000 to refurbish and improve the athletics track and facilities at Market Street in Bury. According to the Council, the money will enable the resurfacing of the synthetic running track and the long jump and pole vault areas. It will also upgrade the hammer and discus cage to meet required standards. In the long-term, the plan is to construct a new health and wellbeing centre, disabled car parking bays, and improve access and security. Cllr Andrea Simpson, cabinet member for health and wellbeing, said: “The Market Street track is well used, with more than 3,000 people visiting the site every year to participate in a variety of sports, health and fitness and leisure activities. ....
