Ventura County COVID vaccine: Students encourage peers to get vaccine

On Thursday, all Californians ages 16 and up became eligible to sign up for an appointment to get a COVID-19 vaccine dose.
Ventura County Public Health reports that more than 4,800 county residents ages 18 and under have gotten a vaccine dose, and more than 43,000 ages 19 through 30 have gotten a dose as of April 14.
Currently, people ages 16 and up can get the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine, according to the federal Food and Drug Administration. The Moderna vaccine is available for anyone 18 and older. Use of the third available vaccine, Johnson & Johnson, was suspended for investigation.
For high school and college students who may be hesitant about getting the vaccine, several who have already gotten at least one dose of the vaccine encourage their peers to make their appointments when eligible. ....

severe obesity (BMI over 40)
type 2 diabetes with hemoglobin A1c levels greater than 7.5%
has a disability that makes them likely to develop severe life-threatening illness or death from COVID-19 infection
has a disability that a COVID-19 infection would limit their ability to receive vital care or services
has a disability that would prevent them from receiving adequate and timely treatment for COVID-19
Contrary to what county officials said Wednesday, a doctor s note or other form of health verification document will not be required at the appointment to protect patient confidentiality.
Vaccine appointments will also be available for residents age 65 or older, as well as workers in food, agriculture, healthcare, education and emergency services. ....

Booking an appointment for a COVID-19 vaccine can be tedious work, but one Southern California woman is trying to simplify the process for others.
In January, Andrea Bristol was curious about how to get an appointment to get vaccinated. After seeing how it worked on one website, the Ventura County mom reached out to a group of friends and asked if they knew anyone eligible for the vaccine that she could help get an appointment.
From there, she started booking them for their parents. Bristol has helped book appointments at a number of different locations not only in Ventura County, but in other parts of Southern California ....

To celebrate the Christmas season and to encourage people to lead a more sustainable life, the Ministry of Agriculture, Environment and Climate Change launched a ‘Recyclable Christmas tree’ competition back in November.
After a gruelling month of fierce competition by schools and homes, the department rewarded the best of the best yesterday in a special ceremony.
The prize-giving ceremony took place at the offices of the headquarters of the ministry located at the Botanical Garden.
