Essex County Fire and Rescue Service supports Covid-19 vaccination drive


A NUMBER of staff at Essex County Fire and Rescue Service have joined the fight against the pandemic by becoming vaccinators.
Responding to the national appeal for volunteers, staff at the fire service have undergone 50 hours of training to become fully qualified vaccinators and are now working at vaccination centres across Essex.
Staff from the fire service have also been volunteering in centres since the beginning of the vaccine rollout in Essex and have helped set up the centres and helped run them ever since.

West Mersea: Firefighters rescue people from car caught in rising floodwater


Flooding - The Strood in Mersea can often flood at high tide
FIREFIGHTERS have issued a warning after rescuing two people from a car which became trapped in rising floodwater.
Crews from Colchester, Tollesbury and West Mersea - along with an urban search and rescue team - were called to the Strood, in West Mersea, at 2.55am on Friday.
The car was caught during high tide, where the water had risen to 5.72 metres.
Whenever the tide is 5 metres and above, it will more than likely cover the Strood.
Water rescue trained crews worked to release the man and woman trapped inside the car. ....

Essex Fire: Be Water Aware campaign begin next week | Clacton and Frinton Gazette

SEASIDE visitors across the county are being urged to stay safe in the water thanks to a national campaign.
Essex County Fire and Rescue Service is taking part in the National Fire Chiefs Council’s Be Water Aware campaign will run all of next week (April 26 to May 2).
The scheme aims to encourage people not to be complacent when spending time in and around water, making note of the risks.
As restrictions ease, it is anticipated many will head to coastal locations and inland water beauty spots.
The advice also aims to reduce accidental drownings as 2019 figures showed there were 223 reported incidents. ....
