The Morongo Basin Municipal Advisory Council (MAC) will gather online tonight and included on the agenda is the explosion of illegal marijuana grows in the area. Wonder Valley Delegate Steve Reyes will present on this issue and MAC members will discuss Resolution No. MB-MAC021 that offers support for Supervisor Dawn Rowe and the San Bernardino County Sheriff Department. The resolution requests more funding and additional code enforcement personnel to tackle the issue.

The BLM’s seasonal Fire Prevention Order places fire restrictions for the California Desert District which includes San Bernardino County as well as most of southern California. The elevated restrictions address the use of campfires, controlled flame devices, and smoking on public lands. In addition, recreational target shooting is prohibited in western San Bernardino County (but does not target licensed hunting). A statewide Fire Prevention Order requires a year-round campfire permit, a five-foot diameter clearance around campfires, prohibits the possession and use of steel-jacketed or steel core ammunition, and provides guidance for extinguishing campfires on BLM-managed public lands. ....

BLM initiates seasonal fire, target shooting restrictions in California Desert District
PALM SPRINGS, Calif. – The Bureau of Land Management has elevated seasonal fire restrictions effective May 6 for BLM California Desert District managed public lands within Los Angeles, Orange, San Bernardino, Riverside, Imperial, southern Inyo, eastern Mono, San Diego, and eastern Kern counties. These restrictions will remain in effect until December 31, unless terminated sooner if conditions warrant.
“Every year at this time, we ask all members of the public to partner with us to minimize fire potential,” said California Desert District Manager Andrew Archuleta. “Without your help and the proactive measures we have in place, dry grass and brush could easily ignite, cause a wildfire and threaten public land visitors, communities, adjacent private lands, and natural resources.” ....

The Bureau of Land Management welcomes new field manager to Palm Springs-South Coast Field Office
Tim Gilloon joined the Bureau of Land Management Palm Springs-South Coast Field Office as the new field manager located in Palm Springs, Calif.  Drawing on his years of combined experience from federal civil service, private industry, and the military, Tim is well prepared to take on his newest challenge as a BLM field manager responsible for more than 1.7 million acres of public lands within portions of Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside, San Bernardino, and San Diego counties.    
“Tim is a great addition to the BLM team and will be responsible for managing a variety of program areas and resources both within the California Desert Conservation Area and California’s South Coast area,” said California Desert District Manager, Andrew Archuleta. “We are excited to have Tim lead the Palm Springs-South Coast Field Office.” ....
