This apartment building in the making on East Pettigrew Street is expected to contain more than 200 apartments.
If you haven’t visited downtown Durham much during the pandemic, here’s an update: The building boom did not stop while you were gone.
On Rigsbee Avenue, white cement trucks, pick ups, orange cones and workers cluster around a half-finished apartment building, its towering shadow covering the whole block. Next to American Tobacco Campus, yellow cranes sit near the early stages of three new buildings of commercial and residential space. Nearly an entire block off Fernway Avenue near West Village is vacant and fenced off, ready for more apartments. ....

Despite COVID-19 cases rising, retailers and shoppers remain busy weekend before Christmas


RALEIGH (WTVD) With Christmas being less than six days away, retailers throughout North Carolina remained busy this Super Saturday as shoppers got their last-minute gifts.
According to Johns Hopkins University, more than 17 million Americans are infected with the novel coronavirus as of Saturday. But retail analysts at the National Retail Federation (NRF) expect more than 150 million people to shop the last weekend before Christmas.
In Brier Creek in Raleigh, ABC 11 found Darin Reinert from Durham with his two daughters getting those final gifts for friends, family and his wife.
We re just trying to be safe and make sure we wear our mask, wash our hands often. There s still shopping that has to happen so we need to get out and do it, said Reinert. ....
