Every day in South Africa, thousands of people traverse our neighbourhood streets and municipal landfills in search of trash that is otherwise deemed worthless by most of us.

I stood outside my home in Durban last Tuesday evening, our rubbish was to be collected early the next morning, most of my neighbours place their black bags out the night before. ....

Minister of Forestry, Fisheries and Environmental Affairs Barbara Creecy announced on Sunday that Parliament will be looking at a ban on captive lion breeding for petting and hunting purposes.
This comes after a recent study on the practice revealed the inhumane and cruel conditions faced by these icons of Africa.
Researchers from the study recommended that the practice be banned outright, and a more authentic experience offered to tourists.
This is not the only item on the agenda under this topic. Parliament will also be looking at ceasing the hunting of damage-causing animals (animals that take livestock or destroy crops) for profit, stop green hunting of animals (no-kill tranquillising of animals using darts) and preventing game ranches from supplying hunters with game that does not traditionally occur in the area. ....

But what is climate change really? This article will shed some light on a topic that every single person should be aware of.
If you close the tap while brushing your teeth, you care about saving water. If you switch the light off when you leave a room, you care about saving power. If you wait to find the nearest bin instead of tossing a sweet wrapper on the ground, you care about the environment. ....

Is your exotic pet obsession fuelling illegal trade in these creatures?
By Staff Reporter

The exotic pet trade is a lucrative business but it needs a closer look at to find out what it is doing to these creatures, writes environmental activist Dominic Naidoo.
Every year, millions of exotic animals are sold as pets destined to spend the rest of their lives behind a glass panel in a world too far from home. Although the term “exotic pet” does not have a defined description, it would normally refer to any pet that is not your typical dog or cat. ....
