MONTPELIER — The Lost Nation Theater will present a live reading of Eric Peterson s stage adaptation of Yvonne Daley’s book Going Up the Country, a look at the origins of the counterculture movement in Vermont, on Wednesday, May 19 at 7 p.m. The free performance will be livestreamed.
The reading, with music by John Foley, will be the first time in 15 months that multiple actors and musicians will be gathered on Lost Nation Theater s stage for a live performance.
Although restrictions prohibit an audience in the theater itself, the livestream — with an uninhibited staff along with an invited guest or two reacting to the show — promises to make viewers feel like they are there in the theater. Viewers can stay online to participate in the discussion after the show with the creators Peterson and Foley, the director, and actors. ....

Theater Review: Willem Lange delivers 46th 'A Christmas Carol' | Vermont Arts

MONTPELIER — Perhaps no story drives home the spirit of Christmas more than Charles Dickens’ “A Christmas Carol: A Ghost Story.” And there isn’t a much better storyteller than Vermont’s own Willem Lange.
On Friday, Lange read the tale of the miserly Ebenezer Scrooge and the nocturnal apparitions that helped him discover Christmas, live-streamed from the Lost Nation Theater stage in City Hall Arts Center. Nearly 300 people tuned in to the resident professional theater company’s first live-streamed production, which remains available online through 10 a.m. Dec. 26.
Dickens’ 1843 novella recounts the story of Scrooge one Christmas Eve. The elderly miser meets the ghost of his late business partner Jacob Marley, and the spirits of Christmas Past, Present and Future who compel him to see the man he has been, is, and will become. The tale has been a Christmas tradition for nearly 200 years, with translations into over 40 languages and coun ....

'A Christmas Carol': Willem Lange tells it as Dickens did | Vermont Arts

East Montpelier raconteur Willem Lange has been delivering his reading of Charles Dickens’ beloved “A Christmas Carol: A Ghost Story” every year since 1975. For those 45 years, he has performed the version Dickens presented in public readings some 127 times including in the United States.
“Dickens had the gift of finding the sensitive spot in each of us — rather like scratching a puppy in a particular place and making it wave a hind leg,” Lange said. “I love the moment in the story when Scrooge, emerging from the horror of seeing his plundered corpse in his own bedroom, wakes to the joy of his new-born self, tries tentatively to laugh, and the amused audience laughs along with him.” ....
