Former Camp Lejeune police officer

A former Camp Lejeune military police officer was sentenced last week after having his offenses consolidated. 
Jairo Palacio will spend a minimum of 192 months and a maximum of 291 months in the North Carolina Department of Correction. 
Palacio was found guilty of statutory rape of a child, incest and two counts of indecent liberties with a minor on March 5, 2021 in Onslow Superior Court. 
According to a release from Onslow County District Attorney Ernie Lee, the State’s evidence showed that in the spring of 2018 the victim, who was 15 years of age and her family came to the United States from Spain. They resided with the defendant, age 42 years of age, and his family. The defendant is related to the victim by marriage. In July 2018, the defendant made a series of sexual advances toward the victim eventually kissing and touching her inappropriately. Onslow County District Court closed rising coronavirus cases


Due to the rising cases of COVID-19, the Onslow County District Court will remain closed until the end of January. 
Chief District Court judge Sarah C. Seaton made the announced effective on January 12 for Duplin, Sampson and Jones County District Courts as well. 
Seaton s administrative order coincides with that of Governor Roy Cooper and Former Chief Justice Cheri Beasley. Cooper extended North Carolina s stay at home order on Jan. 6 while Beasley released an emergency directive on Dec. 14 where all non-essential in person court proceedings were postponed. 
All district courts in those counties are scheduled to remain closed through Jan. 29. 
All four counties have shown increased positive coronavirus cases and increased fatalities during the month of January. With the backlog of court cases from full closure of the courthouses during the pandemic, the heavy dockets require a large number of people inside the court rooms working closely together.  ....
