NEW DELHI(Reuters) - India boosted healthcare spending by 135% and lifted caps on foreign investment in its vast insurance market on Monday to help revive an economy that suffered its deepest recorded slump as a result of the pandemic.

NEW DELHI India proposed doubling healthcare spending in an annual budget unveiled on Monday and lifted caps on foreigners investing in its vast insurance market to help revive an economy that suffered its deepest recorded slump as a result of the pandemic.
Delivering her budget statement to parliament, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharam projected a fiscal deficit of 6.8% of gross domestic product for 2021/22, higher than the 5.5% forecast by a recent Reuters poll of economists. The current year was expected to end with a deficit of 9.5%, she said, well up from the 7% expected earlier. ....

Retail inflation eased in November after holding above 7 per cent for two straight months, but remained beyond the upper bound of the 2-6 per cent target, meaning the central bank is likely to leave policy rates on hold to support the economy, analysts said.
November s annual retail inflation was 6.93 per cent, lower than the 7.1 per cent forecast in a Reuters poll of economists and down from 7.61 per cent in October, government data showed on Monday. ....
