Local COVID Vaccine Clinics Not Seeing Trend of Skipped Second Doses

GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – There have been reports nationally of some people skipping their second dose of the COVID vaccine.
However, some local clinics say this isn’t the case for them.
About 32% of Wisconsin’s population is fully vaccinated against COVID.
According to the CDC, through the beginning of April, about 5 million Americans skipped their second dose.
Jason Mattson, the clinical team leader for the Bellin Health Lambeau Field COVID Vaccination Site says this is a trend he hasn’t seen much of.
“There’s been occasional people that haven’t shown up for their first dose, but most people have been pretty good about their second dose,” Mattson said. ....

APPLETON, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – Many people who want COVID-19 shots can’t get them yet, because they are not yet eligible.
Appleton Public Health Officer Kurt Eggebrecht says the Fox Cities COVID-19 Vaccination Clinic has turned away people who try to jump the line of eligibility.
“We don’t have medical records. They have to attest at the time they make the appointment that they do in fact fit those classifications,” said Eggebrecht. “We are really working on the honor system.”
Statewide, the Department of Health Services has said it is not asking people to verify medical conditions. ....

Appleton Flag Day Parade to Return This June

APPLETON, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) A summertime tradition in Appleton is back on tentatively.
Organizers of the Appleton Flag Day Parade say the 70th edition of the celebration will take place June 12.
“By summer, most of Wisconsin could be vaccinated against COVID-19, the disease that in one year has killed more than 6,000 residents and hospitalized more than 26,000,” Appleton Public Health Officer Kurt Eggebrecht said in a news release. “Additionally as vaccination rates increase, we anticipate that our community burden rate of disease will trend downward.”
“The Appleton Parade Committee is encouraged by recent data trends and is optimistic about June 12th,” parade committee chair Corey Otis said in a news release. “We continue to closely monitor COVID-19 data and are proceeding with caution.” ....
