Celebrate Your Awesome’s annual in-person pride and diversity celebrations have again had to be put on hold, due to the pandemic, but that didn’t stop the organization from creating something special for the community to enjoy.
In partnership with Theatre Orangeville, Celebrate Your Awesome (CYA) recently filmed a one-of-a-kind video for its virtual event, featuring all of the drag queens and musical acts that attendees of the group’s in-person celebrations had come to enjoy in 2018 and 2019.
The film is set for release on August 7 at 7 p.m. and the link will be posted to the groups Facebook Page: facebook.com/celebrateyourawesome on the day it airs. ....

Attention readers!
The Mill Street branch of the Orangeville Public Library is reopening to the public next Monday (March 1), allowing individuals to browse collections and use computers for the first time since it closed in late December, when the Province-wide stay-at-home order was enacted.
For the last two months, the library has offered curbside pickup and will continue to do so after it opens for library card holders who may feel uncomfortable entering the building.
Orangeville Public Library CEO, Darla Fraser said there’s a sense of cautious excitement among her staff to again be able to safely serve the community in-person, while adhering to all of the Public Health protocols for COVID-19. ....

He is the Santa bringing us Stories with Santa at the Orangeville Public Library. Although he is pictured sitting in the Library, as he told us, “When no one [of the public] was there,” his delivery of the story books from which he is reading are only to be viewed online via the library’s website: www.orangevillelibrary.ca
Our conversation was, a little surprisingly, not filled with merry anecdotes of his life in the North Pole with the Elves, contending with the pranks of the reindeer or the need to conceal his workshop from the prying eyes of increased traffic of surveillance aircraft. Nor did he regale us with stories from his many visits to mall and parades, the shining eyes of the children, their quaint ques ....

Being Santa is not a simple matter of a costume, beard and ho-ho-ho. According to Santa, with whom the Citizen had the chance to talk, there is an obligation to honour “the persona.”
For the sake of this interview, while he does have a rest-of-the-year-name, we will only refer to him as Santa. This year, he is sharing recorded Stories every Friday, for two more Fridays in December, shown online from the Orangeville Public Library. The recording takes place at the Mill Street Library, where the real-life readings would be but for the COVID-19 restrictions. ....
