ISLAMABAD: A sacked judge of the Islamabad High Court (IHC), Shaukat Aziz Siddiqui, on Wednesday requested the Supreme Court to fix next month his petition challenging the notification of the president of Pakistan, terminating his service.
He filed an application in the apex court under XXXIII Rule 6 of the Supreme Court Rules 1980 for early hearing of his petition. He submitted that he was going to retire on June 30, 2021, therefore, his instant petition may be fixed preferably on May 4, 2021 in the interest of justice. He submitted that since his removal from office, he said he like millions of other citizens has been guaranteed fundamental rights. It is a universally-recognized principle that justice delayed is justice denied, he contended. ....

Airbus Turns To Profit In Q1, Revenues Nearly Flat; Backs FY21 Outlook
SCHIPHOL-RIJK (dpa-AFX) - European plane maker Airbus SE (EADSF.PK, EADSY.PK) reported Thursday that its first-quarter consolidated net income was 362 million euros, compared to last year s net loss of 481 million euros. Earnings per share were 0.46 euro, compared to loss of 0.61 euro a year ago.
Consolidated EBIT amounted to 462 million euros, significantly higher than prior year s 79 million euros.
Consolidated EBIT Adjusted increased to 694 million euros from prior year s 281 million euros.
Consolidated revenues were 10.5 billion euros, slightly lower than last year s 10.6 billion euros.
The company delivered 125 commercial aircraft in a market environment that remains uncertain. ....

Gunmen attack police checkpoint in Akwa Ibom, kill two officers, cart away rifles

Unknown gunmen in the early hours of Wednesday attacked police officers manning a checkpoint at Urua Inyang, Ika Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State, killing two officers while others fled.
The gunmen reportedly burnt down the police patrol vehicle and carted away rifles soon after the other officers fled.
The latest killing has brought to six the number of Policemen killed in the line of duty in Akwa Ibom by unknown gunmen, while four others have been declared missing.
One officer was burnt to death inside a van in Essien Udim, two Inspectors were set ablaze and a leader of the Quick Response Squad (QRS), a Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP), was also shot dead while leading the squad to confront armed hoodlums in their base in Ikot Akpan in Essien Udim Local Government Area. ....

Ireland will press ahead with plans to reopen all retail stores, personal services and non-residential construction in May with hotels, restaurants and bars to follow sooner than expected in early June, Foreign Minister Simon Coveney said on Thursday.
The government committed a month ago to reopening all shops for the first time this year in May and hotels in June if it could avoid a fourth wave of COVID-19 disease and speed up its vaccine programme – criteria that it has met.
Coveney said the plan to be signed off by ministers later on Thursday would permit hotels to open their doors again on. ....
