Montreal housing co-op wanted 'traditional' family, single mother claims after being rejected

A Montreal single mother is being forced to consider a David vs. Goliath fight in court after she claims a co-op rejected her family s request for housing for a plethora of discriminatory reasons.
The mother has asked that her name be redacted to protect the privacy of her two daughters.
She states that she applied for an apartment at the Milton-Parc Housing Co-operative in January 2018, but was told she did not fit the ideal criteria.
They told me We want a family with a father, a mother and young children, she said. I rebutted, But wait, almost half of the families in Quebec are single-parent families. ....

Quebec’s human rights commission has said a Montreal housing co-operative should pay $26,000 to a woman it rejected for an apartment in 2018.
The commission found sufficient evidence of discrimination by the Milton-Parc Housing Co-operative for the case to be taken to the Human Rights Tribunal, three years after the apartment the mother applied for was given to another family.

A Montreal-area school board has been told to pay $30,000 in damages to a local family to compensate them for years of racist bullying.
But the mother of the Rosemere family, Adrienne Charles, says she s concerned that it won t change anything for other kids.
The thing is, the Black kids of that school and school board are being called the n-word and nothing changes, it still continues, she told CTV News.
