WASCAL has opened calls for application for interested West Africans who look forward to studying Climate Change programmes at the post-graduate levels.  interested pursuing in combatting Climate Change and improving livelihoods.
With funding from the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF), WASCAL will be offering full scholarship to 154 students from eleven West African countries to pursue ten (10) Doctoral Research Programmes and two (2) Master’s Research Programmes in Climate Change thematic areas. The countries are Benin, Burkina Faso, Cabo Verde, Côte d’Ivoire, Ghana, Mali, Niger, Nigeria, Senegal, The Gambia, and Togo.

Eleven days from now, if all goes as planned, mass demonstrations against Zimbabwe’s brutal military dictatorship will be held across the country. We have no reason to expect that the regime will respond to these expressions of frustration peacefully. In character, we should expect that they will use Covid-19 as a smokescreen behind which to shut down the space for civil protest.
It is for this reason, and the fact that the vast majority of Zimbabwean citizens are now living in dire conditions, that Good Governance Africa is launching a campaign in support of reform. Where there is suffering, it is critical that we add our substantive voice to effect change. ....

For many African countries, Covid-19 has provided a useful cover for leaders to advance authoritarian ends, consolidate their autocracies and undermine whatever rule of law existed before. This seems especially true for ruling coalitions in countries with access to mineral or hydrocarbon wealth.
