A research team at Qingdao Agricultural University in Shandong province announced recently that it had succeeded in cloning a jungle cat.
The university is the first in China to clone a feline using a technique known as somatic cell nuclear transfer.
Researchers said the technology of feline cloning is expected to play a role in studying animal diseases, developing new drugs and protecting endangered species.
The white-and-black baby cat, born on Dec 24, weighed 75 grams and has been healthy. It was named Ping an by researchers, meaning peace and safety. They hoped the cloned kitty would bring good luck for the New Year, as it was born at the end of a year that had seen massive global hardship due to the coronavirus pandemic. ....

(Togo First) - Last Monday, a workshop was held in Lomé to train agricultural experts from the member States of the African Organization for Intellectual Property. The focus of the workshop was new plant varieties and it aimed to boost agricultural yield and production.
Themed Technical Assessment for the Distinction, Homogeneity, and Stability of new plant varieties, the meeting is to last five days. It should enable producers from the OAPI to get quality seedlings, subsequently boosting their productivity.
The initiative supports African farmers cultivating food crops like maize, rice, and sorghum, and cash crops also. The OAPI wants to help researchers develop ....

researchers and a student of Vietnam were honoured with the Inoue Yasushi Award for their PhD theses on Japanese literature, at a
ceremony held by the Japan Foundation Centre for Cultural Exchange in Vietnam and
the Inoue Yasushi Memorial Foundation on January 18.
A first prize was awarded to Chau Hong Thao for her excellent writing about the
