The Board of Supervisors on Tuesday voted to table a resolution calling for more clarity, resources, and local control from the state in implementing COVID-19 measures.
Chair Dan Miller and Supervisor Sue Hoek, who brought forward the resolution, voted against tabling it. Supervisors Hardy Bullock, Heidi Hall and Ed Scofield voted in favor.
There’s no date for when the resolution will return to the board. ....

Supervisors ask for greater role in deciding COVID restrictions

With a unanimous vote, the Del Norte County Board of Supervisors approved a resolution asking the state of California to give the county a greater say in provisions set to control COVID-19.
Board Chair Chris Howard presented the Healthy Communities Resolution to the board, saying the state’s one-size-fits-all approach is not working in Del Norte County.
“Many of our rural counties have expressed strong interest that they know what to do best for their communities as it relates to building a safer community around COVID,” Howard explained. “This county in particular talks very highly of getting away from a one-size-fits-all approach that generally we have the short end of the stick when it comes to the state of California. I don’t think I have tell many of you under Gov. Newsom’s orders as it relates to the blueprint and the rollout and impacts of some of our businesses or lost businesses that Del Norte County probably could have responded a li ....

Supervisors' Acts of Defiance May Have Consequences After All – anewscafe.com

A few strange things happened Tuesday at the Shasta County Board of Supervisors meeting.
But before we examine the meeting’s most bizarre parts, I’d be guilty of burying the lead if I didn’t share one of the most stunning developments.
You may recall two occasions last week when Shasta County Supervisors Les Baugh and Patrick Jones unlawfully opened board chambers and allowed the public inside an off-limits space that had been shuttered by supervisors in a Dec. 15 vote after a surge in COVID cases.
The pair’s first act of shared defiance was Tuesday.
The second was Wednesday, when Jones repeated the previous day’s performance during what was supposed to be a virtual special board meeting. ....

Shutterstock Make no mistake, the resolution being brought before the Humboldt County Board of Supervisors tomorrow by First District Supervisor Rex Bohn does nothing but further politicize Humboldt County’s COVID-19 response, undermining our local health officer and exerting undue pressure on local school districts in the process.
Bohn has asked the board to consider approving the “Healthy Communities Resolution,” which arose last year out of a meeting of conservative “North state leaders” and has since been adopted by a handful of counties from Lassen to Orange. The resolution amounts to little more than a statement of opposition to the state’s tiered county ....

First District Humboldt County Supervisor Rex Bohn on Tuesday will ask his fellow board members to consider a resolution asking for freedom from California’s COVID-19 regulations.
The declaration, called the Healthy Communities Resolution, includes a list of principles, one of which states, “our county is best served by an ability to respond locally to the COVID-19
virus.” Another declares, “school districts in our jurisdiction are urged to safely open all schools as soon
as possible and provide in-person instruction to the greatest extent possible without
further delay.”
The resolution, which amounts to a statement of opposition to the state’s color-coded and tier-based Blueprint for a Safer Economy, emerged from a conference of Republican state representatives held in Red Bluff late last year. One of the authors, Assemblymember Kevin Kiley, issued a ....
