Burlington Mayor Weinberger issued the following statement today regarding the mask mandate in the City of Burlington: “The new guidance released by the Center for Disease Control [CDC] yesterday marks a significant milestone in our more than year-long fight against the Covid-19 pandemic. I fully support the Governor Phil Scott’s move to quickly lift the masking requirements for vaccinated people in most settings, and the City team is working swiftly to take parallel action in here in Burlington. “Beginning today we will not enforce the City’s Emergency Order requiring face coverings for fully vaccinated people, and I have called a Special Meeting of the City Council for Monday May 17th at 5:30 pm in order to rescind the requirement for vaccinated individuals. ....
Moves Follow Updated CDC Guidance and as Vermont Continues to Lead the Nation in Vaccinations by Timothy McQuiston, Vermont Business Magazine Governor Phil Scott today announced that because Vermont has already hit its necessary vaccination threshold with over 60 percent of the population receiving at least one dose, it will move into Step 3 of the Vermont Forward Plan more than two weeks ahead of schedule. Additionally, following updated guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the Governor signed an executive order lifting the state’s masking and physical distancing requirements for fully vaccinated individuals in Vermont. You are considered fully vaccinated two weeks after the final dose of your COVID-19 vaccine. Those not vaccinated must continue to wear masks in public spaces and adhere to gathering and social distancing requirements, as described in the governor s order. ....

Mike Smith, secretary of the Agency of Human Services, said the state plans to immediately open vaccination registration up to 12- to 15-year-olds once the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention approves use for the age group. The FDA authorized the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine for younger adolescents Monday and he anticipates a decision from the CDC this week. In addition to regular clinics, schools will offer the vaccine to the younger age group in Vermont. At the governorâs regular Tuesday news conference on the stateâs response to the coronavirus pandemic, Smith said more than 40 schools are preparing to house clinics and the state is seeking more Pfizer doses for the effort. ....
