Charities in the north-east and Highlands have hailed the easing of lockdown restrictions as a “huge step forward” for those suffering with mental health issues and loneliness.
Alison Campbell, senior coordinator at Befrienders Highland in Inverness, said her organisation has experienced a 62% increase in the number of matches her coordinators have been handling since April 2020.
However, she added that the loneliness charity has also witnessed a large uptake in volunteers signing up to help those in need since the start of the pandemic. ....

A generous Aberdeen gym owner has donated almost £1,000 to two charities to ensure they can continue to support those in need.
Jake Poblocki, who owns HUSH Private Gym on Riverside Drive, is giving the organisations £100 each per week to help them stay afloat during the Covid-19 pandemic.
The money, which is being raised through gym equipment rentals, will go towards Mental Health Aberdeen and PATH Torbay – where Jake grew up in England.
The kits are tailored to the strength of the individual and contain equipment such as dumbbells, barbells, and medicine balls. ....

Aberdeen accountancy firm gives cash boost to three charities

Three Aberdeen charities will receive a cash boost thanks to city accountants and tax advisors Meston Reid and Co.
The firm is donating the money it would normally spend on its Christmas party – as well as donations from its staff – to a trio of good causes.
Mental Health Aberdeen, Sue Ryder Care’s specialist neurological centre at Dee View Court and Aberdeen Cyrenians will all benefit from an equal share of a £2,160 fund.
The money is made up of £1,500 that would normally go towards the firm’s festive celebrations as well as £330 of donations by staff that have been matched by Meston Reid. ....
