LUFKIN, Texas (KTRE) - As the number of people who require hospital care for COVID-19 infection rises, CHS St. Luke’s Health Memorial Lufkin is taking proactive steps to deal with the growing influx of coronavirus patients.
In addition to opening a third COVID unit at CHI St. Luke Memorial’s Lufkin campus, the hospital will also be getting help from the Department of Defense in the form of ICU registered nurses and MedSurge registered nurses. ....

Frontline Staff at St. Luke's in Lufkin Prepare for COVID Vaccine


According to a press release, St. Luke’s Health-Memorial Lufkin has received 100 doses of its allotted 600 doses of the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine.
Memorial Lufkin has proactively prepared to receive, store, and administer the vaccine and is expected to begin administering the first of the vaccines at 7 a.m. Wednesday morning, December 23.

“The health and safety of our employees, providers, and patients remains our highest priority. Therefore, we have established protocols for receiving and distributing COVID-19 vaccines throughout our care sites,” Monte Bostwick, Market President/CEO said.  “Our expectation is that the vaccine will be distributed in phases, beginning with a limited number of doses in December 2020, with widespread vaccines available by Spring 2021.” ....

LUFKIN, Texas (KTRE) - St. Luke’s Health-Memorial Lufkin announced Tuesday it has received 100 doses of its allotted 600 doses of the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine.
According to a press release, Memorial Lufkin has proactively prepared to receive, store, and administer the vaccine and is expected to begin administering the first of the vaccines at 7 a.m. Wednesday morning, December 23.

St. Luke's Health-Memorial Lufkin administers first round of COVID-19 vaccines to health care workers | Coronavirus / COVID-19


Memorial Lufkin was among sites in East Texas to receive hundreds of doses this week.
The hospital administered the first vaccines beginning at 7 a.m. Wednesday.
“Today is a day of hope for all of us as we receive the first doses of the COVID-19 vaccine and prepare to begin administering them,” said Dr. John Sanders, ER physician at Memorial Lufkin.
“It was painless,’’ Sanders said. ‘‘My advice would be for those able to receive the vaccine, they should get it.’’
The hospital received 100 doses of its allocated 600 doses of the vaccine this week. More Moderna COVID-19 vaccine is expected however at this point there is not a specified time. ....
