Halifax Health sues AdventHealth over level of charity care


Halifax Health Medical Center has filed a lawsuit accusing AdventHealth’s Hospital in Daytona Beach of failing to provide up to $71.9 million worth of uncompensated care in the past 10 years as required by an agreement between the two hospitals.
In their response, AdventHealth attorneys dispute that they owe Halifax anything.
The dispute goes back to AdventHealth’s decision to close its old Ormond Memorial Hospital at 875 Sterthaus Drive In Ormond Beach in 2005 and move to 301 Memorial Medical Parkway in Daytona Beach.
Halifax Health initially challenged the move which required state approval of a certificate of need. The two sides eventually settled with Halifax agreeing to drop its opposition in exchange for AdventHealth providing 5.5% annually of uncompensated care or charity care, according to the lawsuit, ....

Covid Deaths in Flagler at 47, Week's Positive Cases Shatter Record in Evidence of Thanksgiving Spike as Vaccines Arrive


The week ending Dec. 19 shattered the record for positive cases in Flagler County, with a total of 220 confirmed.

The Flagler Department of Health this week reported the 47th Covid-19 death of a Flagler County resident, and 220 confirmed positive coronavirus cases in the county in the week ending Saturday, setting a new single-week record in the county since the pandemic began in February.
“It was a pretty rough week, we expect those trends to continue,” Bob Snyder., who heads Flagler County’s Health Department, said this afternoon. “I hope not, but we’re in that phase of the virus that’s most concerning for us.” ....

AdventHealth Daytona and Halifax Health to get COVID virus vaccine


Next week, AdventHealth Daytona Beach and Halifax Health Medical Center will receive the first rounds of coronavirus vaccines in Volusia County. 
And Ormond in the Pines is expected to be one of the first long-term care facilities in the nation to receive the coronavirus vaccine in the coming weeks. 
Margaret Crossman, chief medical officer for Halifax Health, said during the Volusia County meeting Friday morning that having an effective vaccine so quickly is unprecedented.
To have vaccines already available to us in less than a year after this pandemic started is truly, truly a miracle, Crossman said. We’ve not seen anything like this before. ....
