Number of COVID-19 patients needing critical care is soaring in Volusia County

In Flagler and Volusia Counties, hospital officials say there s been a significant increase in hospitalizations due to COVID-19.They are well able to handle the case load, but say it s clear the pandemic wave is ongoing.Halifax Health is currently handling 72 COVID-19 positive patients, 23 of which are in intensive care and 11 of those are on ventilators.Health officials say the majority of COVID-19 patients are from the unvaccinated population.“We are higher than any number that we ve had at any point of this pandemic from its beginning,” Chief Medical Officer Dr. Margaret Crossman said.Crossman said the mix of summer events and celebrations in an only partially vaccinated population is the reason Halifax Health is seeing an explosion in COVID-19 positive people needing critical care. Thanks to a $22,000 donation from Palm Coast residents Peter and Sue Freytag, the ER now has an up-to-date baby warmer to use in those unforeseen situations.
“We had one, but it was a much older model,” Radcliff said. “It’s nice to know we have updated equipment just as good as they have in a birthing unit. It has all the monitors you need. We can provide oxygen if the babies need it. It’s very well equipped.” ....

AdventHealth Palm Coast Will Build a $100 Million, 100-Bed Hospital on Palm Coast Parkway

AdventHealth today announced it will build a $100 million, 100-bed hospital with an emergency room on Palm Coast Parkway, just west of the Market Street assisted living facility, bringing hundreds of jobs, remaking the complexion of the west side of Palm Coast Parkway and reasserting itself as the dominant force in health care in Palm Coast and Flagler as challengers appear on the horizon.
The four-story hospital is scheduled to open in late 2022, according to a company release, “and will join AdventHealth Palm Coast to provide additional convenience and comprehensive care, including world-class orthopedics services, to Flagler residents.” ....
