Ontario could see 30,000 cases per day in May without stricter measures: modelling
1:30 pm Modelling projections presented on Friday by the Ontario science advisory table show the province could experience up to 30,000 new COVID-19 cases per day by the end of May without stricter measures.
In the best-case scenario, the province’s curve would flatten around 5,000 cases or less over the next six-weeks assuming Ontario continues doing at least 100,000 vaccinations per day.
“Without stronger system-level measures and immediate support for essential workers and high-risk communities, high case rates will persist through the summer,” said Adalsteinn Brown, co-chair of the science table and head of the Dalla Lana School of Public Health at the University of Toronto. ....

An Ontario-wide curfew is not one of the measures being considered at this time as the Ford government tries to curb the surge in new COVID-19 cases and help an overburdened hospital system, sources tell 680 NEWS.
The measure was discussed at a cabinet meeting Thursday and sources say while it’s currently off the table, things could change as no final decisions have been made.
It’s believed Premier Ford and his cabinet are looking at a host of other measures that could include restrictions to non-essential construction. ....

Ontario looks at lengthening time between COVID vaccine doses

Ontario is considering extending the time between COVID-19 doses to four months in an effort to quickly get at least a first dose into more people.
The province currently aims for a window of 21 to 27 days between two doses when vaccinating vulnerable residents of long-term-care (LTC) homes and up to 42 days for LTC staff and other priority health care workers.
