The village of Hoffman Estates is hosting a Pfizer COVID-19 vaccination clinic from 3 to 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, June 2, for those in need of either their first or second doses. The clinic at Hoffman Estates village hall, 1900 Hassell Road, is open to all.
It s for adults and children 12 years and older. Anyone under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian. You should not receive any other vaccine within the two weeks prior to the COVID-19 vaccine.
 
COVID-19 vaccinations are provided at no cost, and no health insurance is required to receive the vaccine. No proof of citizenship required. ....

Fact check: Budget cuts to St. Louis police dept. not approved yet


Is violence increasing in St. Louis due to a push to defund the police?
That s the claim from a May 4 Facebook post from the page Survive the Streets: A page for cops. It includes two images of newscasts from different outlets neither image is dated  and implies that defunding the St. Louis police department is connected to 20 recent shootings.

County added legal expenses for relocation efforts with jail project


The Itasca County Board met for a regular session at the Itasca County Courthouse on Tuesday.
During the meeting, commissioners approved an additional $15,000 in expected legal expenses for relocation efforts related to property acquisition for the construction of the new correctional facilities.
Attorneys with Rinke Noonan provided a letter why the budget had gone beyond its initial contract. The county board approved the original contract in August 2020. The board felt the issue was beyond the scope of the county attorney to handle the specialized service of relocating tenants.
County Administrator Brett Skyles recommended approving the additional $15,000.

County agrees to 2021 salary increases for sheriff, auditor


The Itasca County Board of Commissioners approved settlements of 2021 salary appeals with both Sheriff  Victor Williams and Auditor/Treasurer Jeff Walker last week. 
During their regular meeting on April 13, commissioners approved an agreement reached by the county and Williams, resolving the 2021 salary appeal. Williams filed an appeal of his 2021 salary in December 2020. The agreement sets the 2021 salary for Sheriff Williams in the amount of $127,633.48. The sheriff salary was set at $123,916 in 2020 when he received a 3.8% step increase.
Auditor/Treasurer Jeffrey Walker also filed an appeal of his 2021 salary in December 2020. The county and Walker reached an agreement resolving the salary appeal. The resolution sets the 2021 salary for Walker in the amount of $131,147.65. The auditor/treasurer salary was set at $127,327.82 in 2020 when the county agreed to a 2.75% increase in cost of living adjustment (COLA) which was in line with the 2.75%  COLA increase giv ....

New police chief to tackle Newton's equity, mental health challenges

During a very challenging era for policing, Mayor Ruthanne Fuller on Thursday said the city had found “the right person at the right time” to become the department’s new leader: Current Walpole Police Chief John F. Carmichael Jr.
If the City Council agrees with the mayor’s choice, Carmichael will take over for Interim Chief Howard Mintz in June.
“I’m very big on transparency,” said the 53-year-old father of two regarding his communication style with the community and media.
During a press conference at the police station, Fuller praised Carmichael, an East Walpole resident, for being a good listener, a collaborative manager and someone who leads with compassion and integrity, she said. ....
