Health Unit Adds 11 New Cases

11 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 are being reported Friday morning by the Northwestern Health Unit.
Six are from the Fort Frances health hub, three from the Kenora area and one each from the Dryden and Sioux Lookout regions.
The NWHU says that there are now 71 active cases of the novel coronavirus in their catchment area, up from the 66 reported on Thursday.
The Kenora region still leads the way with 31 active cases, followed by the Fort Frances health hub with 19.
The regional health authority tells us there is good news going into the weekend as the number of hospitalizations is down from five on Thursday to three on Friday. ....

With mask-less gatherings and protests happening across the province and now here at home, the Northwestern Health Unit has a clear message.

“I know that many people are tired with COVID-19 and that they are frustrated by some of the measures that have been put in place, however, masking has proven to be a very effective way to prevent the spread of COVID-19,” says Young Hoon, “That’s why its currently regulated and required that people are expected to wear masks in enclosed indoor spaces, particular in public spaces.” ....

Multiple COVID-19 cases linked to church's Easter service

EMO, Ont. – An Easter church service in Emo, Ontario has been linked to at least five cases of COVID-19, health authorities have confirmed.
Emo s Cavalry Baptist Church held an outdoor Easter service April 4.
Images of the service posted to Facebook by church leaders garnered online criticism for an apparent lack of physical distancing and masks.
The Northwestern Health Unit said Monday that five confirmed cases have so far been connected to the church s Easter service.
Provincial regulations currently allow religious services to occur outdoors without attendance limits, provided there is enough room for attendees to maintain two metres of physical distance from others. There is no requirement for masks to be worn outdoors. ....

NWHU Not Wasting Vaccine: Young Hoon

The Northwestern Health Unit says there hasn’t been any wasting of COVID-19 vaccines so far.
Medical Officer of Health Doctor Kit Young Hoon says staff are very diligent in making sure all the doses are used.
“At this point, we have not been informed of wasted vaccine in our region,” says Doctor Young Hoon, “A vile has ten doses in it, and we plan accordingly. When no-shows happen, we have a list of eligible populations who we then call so each dose is used.”
Young Hoon adds that they don’t open a vial of vaccine if they don’t have enough people to immunize and that those responsible for vaccine distribution locally are very committed to ensuring that there is none wasted. ....
