Ontario to allow more elective surgeries and procedures as hospitlization numbers continue to decline

The Ontario government has tweaked two emergency orders that were put in place to increase healthcare capacity during the height of the province’s third wave while simultaneously permitting hospitals to conduct more elective surgeries and procedures.
In a memo sent to hospitals on Wednesday, Deputy Minister of Health Helen Angus announced that an April 28 amendment to an emergency order that permitted hospitals to move chronically ill hospital patients into long-term care homes and retirement homes without their consent is “no longer necessary” due to “some of the improvements to health system conditions that have been observed in recent days.” ....

Newfoundland answers Ontario's call for help, sends 9 critical care workers to the province

Nine health-care workers from Newfoundland, including the premier’s wife, have been sent to Ontario as the province experiences record-breaking numbers of COVID-19 patients in its intensive care units (ICU).
Health Minister Christine Elliott confirmed that the team will be arriving on Tuesday.
“We re very grateful for the help that we were receiving from Newfoundland,” Elliott said.
“They re experienced in intensive care and one is Premier Fury’s wife, who is a critical care doctor herself. So these are people who are very knowledgeable.”
Newfoundland and Labrador Premier Andrew Furey’s office confirmed that nine people, including Dr. Allison Furey, will be coming to Ontario to offer their assistance. ....

Manitoba looking to help Ontario and its climbing COVID-19 cases

With a record-breaking 4,812 new cases of COVID-19 reported on Friday, the Ontario government has turned to other provinces for help with health-care resources.
In order to meet the anticipated demands following the peak of Ontario’s third wave, we are seeking the assistance of 620 professionals to support Ontario hospitals, reads a letter sent to provinces from Ontario Deputy Minister of Health Helen Angus.
In response, the Manitoba government said it is evaluating the request to see if, and how, help could be provided, adding officials are already in contact with their counterparts in Ontario.
In a statement, a spokesperson for Premier Pallister tells CTV News provincial governments have been working collaboratively throughout the pandemic to help protect the safety of Canadians from COVID-19. ....
