Ontario to allow more elective surgeries and procedures as hospitlization numbers continue to decline

The Ontario government has tweaked two emergency orders that were put in place to increase healthcare capacity during the height of the province’s third wave while simultaneously permitting hospitals to conduct more elective surgeries and procedures.
In a memo sent to hospitals on Wednesday, Deputy Minister of Health Helen Angus announced that an April 28 amendment to an emergency order that permitted hospitals to move chronically ill hospital patients into long-term care homes and retirement homes without their consent is “no longer necessary” due to “some of the improvements to health system conditions that have been observed in recent days.” ....

Here are the latest developments on the COVID-19 pandemic in the Greater Toronto Area for Monday:
City officials said on Tuesday that Toronto has reached 65 per cent vaccine coverage of at least one dose as it nears almost two million COVID-19 vaccine shots.
So far, a total of 1,986,966 doses have been administered.
Team Toronto has reached this goal thanks to a vaccination network that includes the City, Toronto Public Health, hospitals, pharmacies, Ontario Health Teams, Local Health Integration Networks, community clinics, primary care physicians and community groups – a network of more than 350 vaccination partners, officials said. ....

DDSB to sell former Ritson PS site

The Durham District School Board (DDSB) will be selling the former Ritson Public School site in Oshawa.
The DDSB says the site, located at 300 Ritson Rd. S., has been declared surplus to the board’s needs.
Oshawa Trustee Michael Barrett says he’s walked through the school on many occasions, adding it’s unfortunate the board has to sell the site.
“I’m all about preserving history, but, unfortunately, this school is not set up for today’s standards,” he says. ....
