Hampshire police crackdown on immigration crime across South
HAMPSHIRE police have stopped 200 lorries and enforced over £70,000 worth of fines in an effort to tackle organised immigration crime.
Between March 1 and March 5, specialist teams from Hampshire police have been working with Border Force, Immigration Enforcement, Bedfordshire Police and Thames Valley Police in and outside of Hampshire to raise awareness of immigration crime.
Over the five days of targeted action, police worked to disrupt organised crime gangs, encourage hauliers to implement better security and identify and protect those found to be trafficked.
A total of 200 lorries were stopped as a result, over £70,000 of fines were dealt out and one lorry was seized as the driver refused to pay the fine. ....

Lincolnshire Police has thrown its support behind a new national Government-backed campaign to clamp down on illegal lorry drops and people smuggling.
The Organised Immigration Crime campaign kicks off today (Monday, February 8) and will last for eight weeks.
The appeal follows the recent tragedy that saw 39 Vietnamese migrants suffer a painful death by suffocating in a lorry trailer on their way to Purfleet in Essex.

Seven men were jailed for a total of 92 years as a result of the investigation into the deaths.
The campaign will be made up of social media posts, leaflets and out-of-home advertising to remind hauliers and the public that people die in trucks and to urge them to report anything suspicious. ....

County Lines drug dealing couple jailed after trafficking case
A COUNTY lines drug dealing couple have been jailed for exploiting vulnerable young men in the supply of heroin and crack cocaine throughout Devon and Cornwall, including in Penzance.
Itman Ismail, 28, from Stratford, and Omorie Nixon, 20, from Ilford, were convicted of three counts of human trafficking, involving four youths, between December 2019 and March 2020, having pleaded guilty to the offences.

Nixon was also convicted of conspiracy to supply Class A drugs – heroin and crack cocaine – and possession of an illicit mobile phone in prison.
Nixon was sentenced to seven years and 10 months in prison and Ismail was sentenced to four years in prison. ....
