Alaska Industrial Hardware, a Bering Straits Native Corp. subsidiary, announced the hire of
Thuy Vo to the position of controller and the promotions of
Tim Larson and
Josh Sieler. Vo has more than 18 years of accounting experience with a boutique public accounting firm that specializes in Alaska Native village corporations, tribal councils and small businesses all over Alaska. A recipient of the University of Alaska Scholar’s award, Vo graduated from the University of Alaska Anchorage with a bachelor of business administration degree in accounting. Larson has been promoted to director of Sales for the outside and inside sales operations of AIH and General Hardware Distributors. Larson has been with the company for nine years in outside sales focusing on key accounts and helping to grow new product lines. Prior to joining AIH, Larson worked in production at Anchorage Sand &Gravel. Larson graduated from UAA in 2001 ....

This past weekend, I âpresidedâ over the University of Alaska Anchorageâs fall 2020 graduate hooding and commencement ceremonies that occurred on Dec. 12 and 13. More than 1,000 students earned degrees or credentials. I put âpresidedâ in quotes because this year is not normal in any sense of the word. The state is using the Alaska Airlines Center (AAC), where we hold our commencement ceremony, as a temporary outpatient infusion center for COVID-19 patients.
Normally we would welcome our graduates, their families and close friends to the AAC by the thousands for a joyous in-person celebration. Instead, this year, we celebrated with mailed diploma tubes and a dynamic website featuring pre-recorded speeches, confetti and a scrolling list of our graduates â a COVID-19-era ceremony that could be experienced safely at home. Similar virtual events occurred at UAAâs community campuses spread throughout Southcentral Alaska. ....
