TREDYFFRIN TOWNSHIP, PA A stolen U-Haul van fled state police at speeds of 100 miles per hour, and it took road spikes and a shot into the vehicle to halt the high-speed chase that ended in a heroin bust. There was a 10-year-old child in the van, authorities said.
Two Delaware men have been charged and a review by Chester County Detectives is underway of the officer-involved shooting. ....

PA Officials Give Coronavirus Update As State Passes 15K Deaths

HARRISBURG, PA Pennsylvania has surpassed 15,000 coronavirus deaths, officials reported on Monday.
The grim milestone was reached after there were 203 new coronavirus deaths reported over the weekend. There were 127 new deaths reported Saturday and 76 new deaths reported Sunday, state Health Secretary Rachel Levine said during a Monday update.
The state s coronavirus death toll now stands at 15,086.

Over the weekend, there was a two-day total of 8,663 cases: 3,779 cases reported Saturday and 4,884 on Sunday. Since the start of the pandemic, Pennsylvania has had 613,804 coronavirus cases.
As of Monday morning, there were 5,905 people hospitalized with COVID-19. That s near double the peak in the spring, Levine noted. Of those, 1,145 patients are in the intensive care unit. ....

PHOENIXVILLE, PA State funding for projects in Chester and Montgomery counties includes $1.75 million for the new Phoenixville Fire Station, $2 million for an emergency services facility in Upper Providence Township, and $1 million for a domestic shelter.
The Redevelopment Assistance Capital Program grants were announced this week.
The Phoenixville Fire Station will receive $1.75 million toward construction and infrastructure expenses as well as for related costs for community health, safety, and education. Projects include adding an office and support space and a six-bay drive-thru apparatus room and improving indoor and outdoor training capabilities. ....

CHESTER COUNTY, PA In Chester County there were 463 fewer new COVID-19 cases reported in the week of Dec. 18-24 than there were in the week before, and the incidence rate also dropped in Chesco.
The Pennsylvania Department of Health updated its information Dec. 25, reporting 1,444 new COVID-19 cases in Chester County for the week of Dec. 18-14. Between Dec. 11-17, Chester County saw 1,907 new cases, a drop of 463.
The downward turn showed up in the incidence rate measure also. The week of Dec. 11-17 the incidence rate in Chester County was reported at 365.3 per 100,000 residence. The week of Dec. 18-24 the incidence rate was 276.6 per 100,000 residents. ....
