Yankton 5th grader wins, students from Philip and McIntosh take 2nd and 3rd in SD Arbor Day Poster Contest

Abby Johanneson, a fifth-grade student at Sacred Heart Elementary School in Yankton, is the winner of the 2021 South Dakota Arbor Day Poster Contest. Abby’s poster was chosen out of 626 entries from fifth graders across the state.
The 2021 contest theme was “Trees Are Terrific…and Energy Wise!” Arbor Day is celebrated annually on the last Friday in April, with individuals and groups encouraged to plant and care for trees.
Johanneson will receive a $125 cash prize and a certificate of achievement. In addition, her poster will be featured on the South Dakota Department of Agriculture and Natural Resources’ Arbor Day Poster Contest Calendar. ....

Fifth-graders encouraged to enter Arbor Day Poster Contest
BOSTON State Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR) Commissioner Jim Montgomery is encouraging Massachusetts fifth-graders to participate in the agency’s 2021 Arbor Day Poster Contest.
Fifth-graders from across the state who are currently enrolled in both public and private schools, or who are home-schooled, can participate in the contest by creating posters that illustrate this year’s theme, “The Trees Out Our Window.” According to a DCR press release, posters must be submitted by March 15.
“Every tree is unique with an important role in keeping our environment healthy, and I’m pleased that each year fifth-graders capture this importance by participating in the Department of Conservation and Recreation’s annual Arbor Day Poster Contest,” Montgomery said. “I look forward to 2021’s inspiring entries from stud ....

Foley names Feb. 27 Arbor Day

FOLEY - The City of Foley is entering its 40th year as a recognized Tree City USA. The recognition, awarded by the National Arbor Day Foundation, provides framework to assist communities in expanding and maintaining their public trees.
In an effort to promote the planting of trees in the city, Saturday, Feb. 27 has been declared as Arbor Day in the City of Foley. The event will begin at 1 p.m. at the Coastal Alabama Farmers and Fishermen’s Market, located at 20733 Miflin Road, Foley. Representatives from the Alabama Forestry Commission, Baldwin County Master Gardeners and Certified Arborists will be on hand to answer any questions about trees. ....

HUNTSVILLE, Ala Goldsmith Schiffman Elementary School fifth grader, Kaylei Selko, won first place in the Alabama Arbor Day Poster Contest.
On Tuesday, Operation Green Team surprised Kaylei with balloons, money, and other prizes for winning first place.
Kaylei says she loves to draw and was excited to enter in the contest but didn t expect to win.
She says her artwork was inspired by different cities. Of course, the Saturn V rocket that sits at the Space & Rocket Center made it into her piece. ....
