Black medical experts host virtual town hall to dispel COVID-19 vaccine myths

Black medical experts from across Canada gathered for a virtual town hall on Saturday to dispel myths about the COVID-19 vaccine and to increase vaccine awareness in the community.
Dr. David Burt is a retired immunologist and part of the Black Scientist Equity Task Force. He says this was long overdue. 
There were so many questions in the chat that we weren’t able to deal with all of them, says Burt. There is a lot of hesitancy in the community because of real and perceived inequities in terms of health care, historical medical abuses in the Black community. ....

68 new cases of COVID-19 in Ottawa on Sunday, COVID-19 incidence rate moves deeper into red zone


 
OTTAWA
Ottawa s COVID-19 incidence rate remains in the red-control threshold on Sunday, as Ottawa Public Health reports 68 new cases of COVID-19 in the capital.
There are no new deaths linked to COVID-19 in Ottawa.
Twenty-eight of the 68 new cases of COVID-19 on Sunday involve residents between 40 and 60 years old.
Since the first case of COVID-19 in Ottawa on March 11, 2020, there have been 15,562 laboratory-confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Ottawa, including 447 deaths.
On Saturday, Ottawa Public Health reported 94 new cases of COVID-19, the highest one-day increase in cases since January 23.  The 94 new cases of COVID-19 moved Ottawa s COVID-19 incidence rate to 40.1 cases per 100,000 people – the threshold to move into the red-control zone in Ontario s COVID-19 reopening framework. ....

Ottawa residents age 80 and older can register for a COVID-19 vaccination appointment, an orange St. Patrick s Day in Ottawa and honouring CFRA s Brian Fraser.

The Ontario government s website for booking COVID-19 vaccination appointments will go live on Monday, allowing residents 80 and older to book appointments to receive the shot.
Premier Doug Ford announced Sunday that the portal will be live at 8 a.m. Monday and will be accepting appointment bookings at mass immunization clinics, starting with individuals 80 and older.
The city of Ottawa began booking appointments for people aged 90 and older last Wednesday, with the first mass vaccination clinic opening on Friday. Mayor Jim Watson says all Ottawa residents 80 and older can book appointments starting Monday, with the city hoping to begin administering the shots on Tuesday. ....
