PORT OF SPAIN South MP Keith Scotland said he was willing to serve in any capacity on Parliament s Joint Select Committee (JSC) on National Security.
Newsday contacted him about the vacancy arising when the JSC s former chairman Fitzgerald Hinds was made Minister of National Security in a Cabinet reshuffle after the death of Energy Minister Franklin Khan.
The JSC members are Scotland, Randall Mitchell, Nigel de Freitas and Ayanna Webster-Roy (Government), Dr Roodal Moonilal and Jayanti Lutchmedial (Opposition) and Paul Richards (Independent), with a new government-named elected MP due to be appointed to replace Hinds. ....

A condolence book has been opened at the Red House for members of the public who wish to pay their last respects to Energy Minister Franklin,63, who died last Saturday.
In a statement on Wednesday, the Parliament announced that a condolence book has opened in the Rotunda of the Red House, between 8 am and 6 pm, from Monday to Friday until further notice. People are advised to enter the Red House through its Abercromby Street entrance and observe all covid19 protocols.
The Energy Ministry set up a virtual condolences book for Khan at its website www.energy.gov.tt on Saturday. ....

CONDEMNED by Government for its absence from Parliament since the Prime Minister was diagnosed with covid19, the Opposition has defended this decision, saying it is following the science.
Caroni East MP Dr Rishad Seecharan said with a surge in cases and deaths, inadequate vaccines, as well as the discovery of the Brazilian strain in Trinidad and Tobago, there is still no clarification on who infected Dr Rowley or how many other people the carrier would have infected.
Seecharan said given the WHO guidelines, Rowley’s comorbidity, which could affect the incubation period, plus his first symptoms on April 5, Rowley could have been infected as early as March 22 or as late as March 31. ....

THE National Energy Skills Centre (NESC) on Tuesday joined the rest of the country in mourning Energy Minister Franklin Khan.
Khan, 63, died at his Maraval home on Saturday.
In a statement, the NESC recalled that as energy minister, Khan served on its board of governors.
We appreciated his guidance and support.
NESC chairman Wayne Bertrand said, We were saddened to learn of Minister Khan’s passing. We are grateful for his long and dedicated service to our country. Our thoughts and prayers are with the Khan family at this time.”
NESC president Kern Dass said, “Minister Khan will be remembered for his service to Trinidad and Tobago and for his guidance, support and leadership in our energy sector.” ....
