NCTD gets $4 million to build hydrogen-fueled bus station

The California Energy Commission has awarded North County Transit District a $4 million grant to build a hydrogen fueling station at the district’s Breeze bus maintenance facility in the Oceanside Industrial Park, transit officials announced Monday.
“NCTD remains committed to being on the forefront of zero-emissions technology, providing clean transportation choices for our customers, and improving the air quality in our communities,” said Tony Kranz, the district’s board chairman and an Encinitas City Council member.
“This new technology and infrastructure will improve overall Breeze operations by decreasing the time needed to refuel, expanding the service range, and increasing the fuel economy of our fleet,” Kranz said in a district news release. ....

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. -The Lake Tahoe Unified School District (LTUSD) was recently awarded $330,000 from the California Energy Commission to replace one of its aging diesel school buses with an electric bus. The new bus arrived in December and has been transporting students daily since then.
The Commission s School Bus Replacement Program offers funds to replace old diesel school buses in disadvantaged and low-income communities throughout California. This program helps schools embrace next-generation zero-emission vehicles and improve children’s health by reducing their exposure to transportation-related air pollution.
“We are thrilled to see further progress made toward the District’s net zero energy goals,” said LTUSD Superintendent Todd Cutler. ....
