A PLAN to develop 400 homes as part of a proposed new city suburb is being drawn up by a housebuilder. A planning application is being prepared for the Sniperley Park development, two miles north-west of Durham, while the first homes will soon be available on a separate development site north-east of the city. Builder Bellway said Sniperley Park would be part of a new “neighbourhood” among about 1,700 homes north-west of the city, as part of the Country Durham Plan, adopted last October. Bellway has acquired almost 50 acres, north of the A691, near Sniperley Hall. Apart from the new homes, proposals for the wider Sniperley Park development include a new primary school, a local community centre and health centre, plus an expansion of the Sniperley Park and Ride facility. ....

Developer Ashberry Homes is set to welcome the final residents to their new homes this summer. Bridgemoor at Jameson Manor, off North Road, forms part of the wider regeneration of the former Northumbria Police HQ site, which is delivering a total of 275 new homes built by both Ashberry Homes and Bellway. More than 150 people have found a new home across the 69 properties provided at Bridgemoor, which comprises 51 private houses and 18 affordable homes for local people. The development includes a range of two, three and four-bedroom houses. The 23-hectare site of the former headquarters of Northumbria Police was purchased by the developers in 2018 for £21 million, having been vacant since 2016 when the force relocated nearby. ....
